In Madagascar, controversy surrounding the construction of a "Coliseum" in the capital

The government of Madagascar unveiled on Friday the construction of an arena on the historic site of the palace of the queen of Manjakamiadana, in the capital Antananarivo, which is already causing a lively controversy.

This building with the appearance of a Roman "Colosseum" must allow "to host a show to treat the history of our country in an educational, popular and cultural way" , declared to the press the Minister of Communication and Culture, Lalatiana Rakotondrazafy. It is part of a major construction program ordered by President Andry Rajoelina for the 60th anniversary, on June 26, of the independence of the Big Island, a former French colony.
