China makes major climate pledge

Environmental NGOs couldn't believe their ears. In his speech to the UN General Assembly, Chinese President Xi Jinping surprised by committing to a carbon neutral goal by 2060. This is the first time that China, the world's largest producer of greenhouse gases, has set itself such an objective. "Humanity can no longer ignore repeated warnings from nature," Xi said, adding that the 2015 Paris Agreement was the "minimum" needed to protect the earth.
